WAXING 101 – How To Prepare and What To Expect

Settle in girls, lets talk waxing.

Waxing can be a daunting experience, especially if its your first wax and you haven’t a notion of what you need to do before hand or what to expect when you go in!

So you’ve plucked up the courage to book your waxing appointment and you’re counting down the days until you can be as smooth as a peach.

First of all, make sure your hair is long enough, don’t go trimming or shaving the week before your appointment because you’ve suddenly panicked that you’re too hairy. You’re not. Leave your hair to grow for AT LEAST 4 weeks before your appointment. Your hair needs to be long enough for you to grab with your fingers and hold. If the hair is not long enough the wax simply wont grab it and you’ll be left with patches of hair that cannot be removed. The more hair we can remove in the first appointment the better your result will be.

Speaking of results, it will take a few regular waxing sessions to get all your hair into the same growth cycle. So while we may remove all the visible hair, there may be some hairs under the surface ready to sprout up in the week after your first appointment. Make sure not to remove these! We will get them at your next waxing appointment until all your hair grows at the same time.

One of the most important steps before waxing is to prep the skin. Make sure your skin is well exfoliated and moisturised in the weeks coming up to your appointment. If you have ingrown hairs make sure to pick up a pack of Waxperts Wonder pads and use them before your appointment to make sure there are no hairs trapped below the skin. If there are, the wax will not be able to grab them. Some ingrown hairs grow flat under the skin, leaving the appearance of hair on the skin after waxing. Because they are trapped under a layer of skin the wax cannot grab them.

So the day has finally arrived! Make sure to have a quick shower the morning of your appointment to ensure the area is thoroughly cleansed. Particularly if you are having a bikini or underarm wax.

When you arrive at the salon you’ll be asked your name (don’t worry we wont announce what treatment you are having!!) and you will be asked to fill in a consultation form to ensure you do not have any contraindications for waxing. You can use the loo while you are waiting for your therapist. You will then be led to your treatment room where you will be left alone to change. A box is provided on the bed to pop your clothes into. If you are having a bikini or underarm wax a pack of wipes will also be provided for every client to use to quickly freshen up and cleanse the area thoroughly. We would ask that every client use the wipes. You can then pop off the relevant article of clothing and hop up onto the bed and place the towel over you. If you are unsure of what to remove just ask your therapist before she leaves you to get ready. Once ready your therapist will come back and get started on your treatment. Our therapists are highly trained and extremely professional. You will be in safe hands!
